Here’s how to hide the disqus inanity from sites like Engadget, using Privoxy:
In your user.filter file, add the filter:
FILTER: nodisqus Remove disqus comments
s@id="disqus_thread"@style="display: none;"@
In your user.action file, list the sites that should use this filter:

Privoxy can surely make the web much more tolerable.
